PUBLIC NOTICE OF COMBINED SEWER OVERFLOWS (CSOs)

The Sanitary Board of the City of Charleston, West Virginia, a Municipal Utility, hereby provides public notice that it owns and operates a combined sewer system with outlets that have the potential to discharge diluted sewage and storm water. During dry weather these outlets are normally not active: however, during rain events or during heavy snow runoff, these overflows may discharge and pose a potential health risk from contact with the receiving stream. You are advised to avoid contact with the water around these outlets during these overflow events for at least 24 hours thereafter.

All outlets are clearly marked with signs providing the outlet number contained in the Sanitary Board’s NPDES permit along with a warning to avoid contact. If you have any questions regarding this advisory, please contact the Charleston Sanitary Board's Environmental Compliance Coordinator, at 304-348-1084.
